Eenadu report: DIG Prabhakar Rao from Anantapur looks into --Name1-snipped-- suicide case, and moves the case to Anantapur police

Last updated on 23rd April 2020

23rd April 2020 Update: I had an inner urge to name-snip the names of some person(s) in this post and so have done so.

Today's (29-Jun-2017) Eenadu (Telugu) newspaper Anantapur district supplement carried a big article on --Name1-snipped-- suicide case in Prasanthi Nilayam. It has a picture of DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Prabhakar Rao (his name can be seen in this govt. webpage: http://www.ap.gov.in/contacts/district-officals/) inspecting the Vidya Vahini office where the tragic suicide happened.

From what I recall of key points in the article (from my perspective) as conveyed to me by somebody else, DIG Prabhakar Rao said that due to slow progress in solving the case, the case will now be looked into by CCS (Anantapur) police. [I don't know what CCS stands for. It could be Central Crime Station (in Anantapur) as Hyderabad city has such a CCS.] DIG Prabhakar Rao also made inquiries of --Name2-snipped-- and a few others. He has assured that the case will get solved quickly (now that Anantapur CCS police will be looking into it).

There is some other detailed information in the article which I don't want to get into.

I think this development shows that police from Anantapur district HQ have been keeping a watch on this case. As the expected progress towards solving the case was not seen, they decided to step in themselves with a top police officer from Anantapur district HQ himself paying a visit to Puttaparthi, inspecting Vidya Vahini office where the tragedy occurred and speaking to --Name2-snipped-- and others from Vidya Vahini team.

I am happy to see that Puttaparthi and Anantapur police are working together to solve this case. It also seems to me that Prasanthi Nilayam bosses (CT trustees in charge of PN) are extending their full co-operation to the police in this matter.

It was very tragic that the young lady, --Name1-snipped--, chose to give up her life in Prasanthi Nilayam. But these things do happen in Indian ashram systems (and perhaps happen in other countries' religious missions too). The important thing, after such a tragedy happens, is for the people of the ashram system and associated ashram town, to have the confidence that the police will make a thorough and fair investigation. From what I have observed of this matter through media reports mainly, I do have the confidence that Puttaparthi and Anantapur police are conducting a fair investigation and are not shielding anybody.

I have learned that DETERRENCE is a MAJOR ASPECT of police work. It is not possible for police anywhere in the world, including countries like the USA, to prevent crime completely. But what the police can do is to show that if a crime is committed, they will investigate the crime and bring those guilty of having committed any crimes to face justice in a court of law, which then deters other citizens/residents from committing crimes.

I think the message would have gone out LOUD AND CLEAR to all section heads/bosses in Prasanthi Nilayam ashram system that if there are any similar tragedies in future, they too will come under investigation from the police. That will send the DETERRENCE message which will help prevent/reduce such tragedies in future. It is the work of Puttaparthi and Anantapur police done so far in this case that sends this DETERRENCE message. As a Puttaparthi resident, I thank Puttaparthi and Anantapur police for this work they have done so far.

Update: I must say my thanks also to Telugu local media of Puttaparthi and Andhra Pradesh, especially Eenadu, for their regular reporting on this case, which has been my main source of information on this matter.

Given below are pics of the Eenadu article.
